Whether you live in the city or in the heart of countryside, everyone will benefit when they use outdoor mosquito control. Not only are mosquitoes a nuisance, swarming like a gray cloud over outdoor picnics and pool parties, mosquitoes are also a serious health hazard. There are over two hundred species of mosquitoes in the United States alone, and of these, all of the females thrive on human blood. They are known for spreading the West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, and Malaria and breed in standing pools of water. If you don’t use some form of repellent or insecticide for their eggs, you are essentially handing control of your backyard to these insects.
Types of Outdoor Mosquito Control
You can choose from small-scale repellents such as incense sticks or candles to burn. Mosquitoes are deterred by the scent of many natural essential oils as well as certain plants, but this won’t drive them off the entire premises of your yard. Though there is no “one time” cure for mosquitoes, you can set up a system that will offer long-term protection by using slow time-release methods. A misting system can be installed around the perimeter of your yard, that will at certain intervals release an insecticide that will continually drive away mosquitoes and keep your home and garden pest free.
Electric and Propane Systems
Another form of mosquito control is to use the electric and propane systems. These devices will attract mosquitoes then draw them into a chamber by using a high velocity fan. Once inside the machine, they will starve to death and die. Some people prefer the electric versions because they are easily portable and don’t require any accessories. The propane based methods however can cover a very large area and are highly effective.
