Mosquito prevention is the best way to deal with these insects. It is much simpler to prevent mosquito larvae from hatching then it is to deal with millions of hatched mosquitoes that are taking over your yard and continuing to breed. The United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention have estimated that there are over two hundred species of mosquitoes in the US and that they all spread serious diseases. West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, and Malaria are just some of the diseases that can be traced back to mosquitoes. One of the easiest methods for dealing with mosquitoes is to remove all standing water in your yard.
Standing Water and Mosquitoes
Standing water is the leading cause of mosquitoes. Adult mosquitoes lay their eggs in this water so it stands to reason that if you remove the water, you will eliminate the problem. However, if you have a garden pond, or swimming pool you will need to take some additional measures to ensure that you aren’t playing host to thousands of mosquitoes. You can purchase an insecticide that will kill mosquito larvae in your pools or ponds. They are circular and look like little doughnuts. Just drop one in your pool or garden pond and the mosquito larvae will die. They are time released and will continue to work for about a month.
Repellents and Mosquitoes
Another effective way to prevent mosquitoes is to use either a propane based or electric mosquito repellent system. These systems mimic the breathing movements of humans and animals and attract mosquitoes. They are then drawn into a reserve chamber by a high velocity fan, where they are trapped until they die. This is a great form of mosquito prevention, for you will avoid coming into direct contact with the mosquito. The system will handle it for you, and all you are left to do, is to dispose of the mosquitoes after their demise.
