The Mosquito Plant

A plant that repels mosquitoes, can it be true? Well, yes it is. In fact, the mosquito plant was genetically engineered to do just that; repel mosquitoes. Grown from a hybrid blend of Citronella grass and Geranium, the Mosquito Plant contains all of the properties that have been used for centuries to repel mosquitoes. The Citronella gives off a sweet lemony scent, which is inherent in the Mosquito Plant as well. You can literally break off a piece of the plant, and rub the essential oil on your skin and enjoy natural insect protection.

Growing the Mosquito Plant
You can safely grow the Mosquito Plant in a small pot or planter. As the plant grows you can transplant it to a larger pot, but his also makes the plant suitable for patio growing. Generally, you can treat and care for your Mosquito Plant as you would any Geranium and have success. The Mosquito Plant prefers full sunlight and during the cool months you can bring them indoors.

Using the Oils from the Mosquito Plant
You can effectively use the oil from the Mosquito Plant as a natural insect repellent. By simply crushing the leaf and applying the oil you can have instant protection, but you can also create your own insect misting spray. You can add 4-5 drops of the essential oil to 2 ounces of water and mix in a spray bottle.
