Tips for Mosquito Bite Prevention

Summer is in the air, and with it comes the scent of orange blossoms, sun tan lotion, and insect repellent. Yes, summer is a wonderful time full of outdoor activities, camping, and canoeing, yet even the most perfect day can be turned into a nightmare due to the constant swatting of biting mosquitoes. The best way to enjoy your outdoor activities is to use some strategic methods for mosquito bite prevention.

Limit Time Outside
Mosquitoes are more prevalent during dawn and dusk. It is best to avoid going outside during these times. If you absolutely must be outside during dawn or dusk, then dress accordingly and wear an insect repellent. It is also important to avoid the use of perfumes, strong smelling soaps, or hairspray when you are going to be outside during heavy mosquito times.

Preventing Mosquitoes from Hatching
Another great way to prevent mosquito bites is to prevent mosquito eggs from hatching. Mosquitoes look for standing water to lay their eggs in, if you can either prevent or remove standing water, or use an insecticide that will kill the mosquito eggs, you can effectively prevent many mosquito bites. Even the smallest amount of standing water can be host to many mosquito eggs, regularly drain water from items such as flower pots, pool covers, recycling bins, trash cans, and any unused items that may be laying around your yard collecting water.
